CHCC Receives AmeriCorps VISTA through IAFCC Partnership

Thanks to an Illinois Association of Free and Charitable Clinics pilot program, 11 AmeriCorps VISTA members will be embedded at seven clinics across the state, including the Community Health Care Clinic.

Our VISTA, Breanna Grow, joined the Clinic June 11. This isn’t Breanna’s first time working with CHCC — she served as the Clinic’s first communications intern in 2015 as part of a civic engagement program at Illinois State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in journalism.

What’s a VISTA?

AmeriCorps VISTA members — Volunteers in Service to America — give their time and talent to a community organization dedicated to eradicating poverty. VISTAs serve as a catalyst for change, living and working alongside community members to advance local solutions.

VISTAs have a unique focus on capacity building, taking on projects like outreach development, marketing, social media management, grant writing and volunteer recruitment to increase an organization’s impact.

That’s exactly what Breanna will be doing over the next 11 months at the Clinic, working alongside our Marketing and Communications Committee to raise awareness of the impact CHCC has on the community and increase donor and volunteer support toward the Clinic’s mission.
She will also be helping the IAFCC with a special project — stay tuned!
