Student Spotlight: Volunteer Translator Lindsay Douglass
Most student volunteers at the Community Health Care Clinic are juniors and seniors fulfilling program requirements. We rarely see students fresh out of high school coming to share their passion with our patients!
Lindsay Douglass just graduated from Normal Community High School. She’s volunteering at the Clinic this summer as a Spanish translator. This fall she’ll start her freshman year at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She plans to pursue three (yes, three!) majors: anthropology, Spanish and linguistics.
Lindsay hopes to work in a nonprofit setting helping immigrants and refugees. She says she was inspired by the courage of her friends who immigrated to the U.S. to escape poverty and violence in Central America. She’s already gained some experience tutoring ESL students at NCHS.
We’re glad she chose to spend the summer with us, and can’t wait to see what great things Lindsay will accomplish next!
